The Wellington Cannery was one of many in Delta a century ago. By 1899, there were 16 canneries built on the south shore of the Fraser River in Delta alone.

Let’s take a step back in time to 1890 and check out the Wellington Cannery, now a park in Delta.

The above photograph from the Delta Archives shows activities at the cannery, which was located at the east entrance to Canoe Pass.

The photograph shows men mending nets, canoes in the water, workers' huts and the cannery buildings in the distance.

The cannery was located at what is now the park and boat launch known as Wellington Point Park.

Located on River Road West, the park with vistas along the south arm of the Fraser River is often visited by kayakers and canoeists.
