Dr. Simon Devereaux will separate fact from fiction when he presents Jack the Ripper and the Royal Family: Murder and Myth.
The ElderCollege Delta presentation will take place on Saturday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. to noon at Cedar Park Church in Ladner.
Jack the Ripper is the most infamous murderer in modern history. Never captured, his identity is one of England’s best known unsolved mysteries.
There are theories linking his crimes to the highest level of government and even the British Royal Family. For more than 40 years, many people have believed that Jack the Ripper was either a member of the Royal Family or else someone acting at its behest or at least in it interest.
Devereaux, an associate professor of history at the University of Victoria, will explain the development of this theory and its even stranger versions.
The presentation is complimentary to current ElderCollege Delta members who can register online. Non-members are invited to attend by taking out a $10 membership purchased online or at the venue.
