Delta Gymnastics is offering an exclusive three-day parkour clinic next weekend.

The clinic, for ages 15 and up, will run from 7:30 to 9 p.m. from Aug. 12 to 14 and costs $67.50.

Diane Steiner, summer community and outreach program coordinator for Delta Gymnastics, describes parkour as a natural method of training the body to efficiently go from point A to point B by making use of the environment that's around at any given time.

Delta Gymnastics has secured Tyler Chassie, a professional parkour athlete and instructor, to help lead the clinics.

"There is no size, skill or experience level required," explains Steiner. "We will be going over some of the more commonly used parkour techniques, (including) rolls, vaults, climbs, safety falls, flips and more. We will cover technique, progressions and strengthening exercises required to build the skill."

Parkour's popularity has exploded over the past few years. Those who practice it jump, climb, slide and roll their way over and across obstacles with incredible agility.

"Parkour is for anyone of any age," says Steiner. "All you need are a pair of shoes and some imagination. The possibilities are endless."

Delta Gymnastics is also offering the opportunity to learn how to coach parkour.

A coaching clinic will be held on Aug. 12 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. It costs $25.

Clinics will be held at the Delta Sport Development Centre in Ladner's municipal precinct.
