Delta Gymnastics is inviting the community to an upcoming free indoor and outdoor event designed to bring families together in a lively and entertaining atmosphere.

When Diane Steiner, the summer community and outreach program coordinator for Delta Gymnastics was given the opportunity to create an event that celebrates being active for Participaction 150, she wasted no time in developing Play Day@Delta Gymnastics.

The event is set for Sunday, Aug. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Delta Sport Development Centre in Ladner's civic precinct.

"I wanted to create an exciting event where Delta Gymnastics took the lead but partnered with community members and groups to deliver 'try it'activities," says Steiner. "These activities are meant to be for families of all ages, building fun into a multi-generational event that promises to have the whole family smiling."

As part of the Participaction 150 Play List, Play Day@Delta Gymnastics offers everything from martial arts, cheerleading, skateboarding and obstacle courses to circus arts, rock climbing, parkour and trampolining.

"We wanted to create activities that are accessible and inclusive to everyone," says Steiner. "Our incredible facility allows us the opportunity to have both indoor and outdoor events in a space that provides a unique opportunity to explore movement in a fun and safe way."

Play Day@Delta Gymnastics was made possible in part due to a community grant from Participaction 150 Play List. The Participaction 150 Play List is a national program designed to encourage all Canadians to sit less and move more.

While the Delta Gymnastics event is free, food donations for the food bank will be gladly accepted.
