Throwback to 1893 award

Let’s do another throwback and check out this fascinating item donated by the Delta Agricultural Society to the Delta Museum and Archives.

It’s an 1893 award to Ladner’s Jubilee Farm from the Chicago World's for an exhibit of “Black Tartarian Oats”.

Information on the award states that "the oats were sown April 2 on clay soil, using 100 pounds of seed per acre; harvested September 12. Yield, 50 Bushels per acre. Weight, 38 pounds per bushel".

Thomas and Annie McNeely owned and ran Jubilee Farm.

The property is now owned by the Catholic Arch Diocese. The original home on the property is now the Sacred Heart Seminary and Sacred Heart School.
