Two residents have died of COVID-19 at a seniors home in North Vancouver.
The two people to die most recently from COVID-19 in long-term care on the North Shore were a couple who were residents of Amica’s Edgemont Village retirement home in North Vancouver, according to a letter sent to families there this week.
The couple lived in the same suite and had been self-isolating there after testing positive for coronavirus.
The letter described the couple as “well known and integral members of our community.”
Other residents and staff at the retirement home have also tested positive for COVID-19.
Measures in place at the Edgemont care home include use of personal protective equipment by staff in all of their interactions with residents, and keeping residents isolated in their rooms, according to the letter.
An outbreak is also continuing at Lynn Valley Care Centre in North Vancouver, where 17 people have died. Both residents and staff at the facility continue to test positive for the virus, although about 30 people are also considered to have recovered.
Cases of coronavirus have also been detected among residents and staff at Berkley Care Home on Burr Place in North Vancouver, a 192-bed care centre operated by Vancouver Coastal Health.
Two care homes in West Vancouver where cases have been reported are faring better.
Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver – where one staff member tested positive – was recently given the all clear by health authorities after passing 28 days with no new cases reported.
Cases at Hollyburn House – where one staff member tested positive and a resident tested positive and recovered – have also not increased, although the care home has not yet been declared outbreak-free.
