The King of Rock and Roll’s music will fill the air at the Ladner Community Centre for a fundraising concert and dance later this month.

An Evening with Elvis will feature Ladner’s own Eli “Tigerman” Williams, a professional Elvis tribute artist and Delta Secondary grad. The event will serve as a fundraiser for Special Olympics Delta.

“I am really excited to be coming home and to be able to perform in my hometown. It has been so long and it will be great to be back,” says Williams in an email to the Optimist. “I am so excited to see everyone.”

He has been performing at the legendary Memories Theatre in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee as part of an ongoing Elvis & Friends show.

The life-long Elvis fan’s career highlights include being named professional grand champion at events including the Pala Casino Ultimate Elvis Tribute Contest (2014), the Kia Motors Elvis Invitational (2013), the Legends Waikiki Ultimate Elvis Contest (2013) and the Pacific Northwest Elvis Festival (2012).

“He’s very good,” says Special Olympics Delta fundraising coordinator Patti Barton, who also praised opening act longtime Vancouver rock and soul band Incognito, led by Rob Montgomery.

Proceeds from the event will go towards gym time, uniforms and travel costs for Special Olympics Delta athletes.

Special Olympics Delta’s Lynn Davies notes approximately 70 athletes are involved with the group, which would like to see that number increase.

Special Olympics Delta presents An Evening with Elvis on Saturday, Feb. 24 at the Ladner Community Centre, 4734-51st St. Doors open at 7 p.m. There will be a cash bar.

Tickets are $30. For tickets contact tickets@sobcdelta.org or visit www.elvisconcert2018.eventbrite.com.
