With addiction there is a way home.

Local author Harold Derbitsky has just released Evolution of Addiction Recovery (book 1) – a book he says points to the healing power that lies within all of us.

“The book points to wisdom and innate health,” he says. “Rather than focusing on the problems of addiction and trying to get clients to come to grips with their shortcomings, this book points to the healing power that lies within every human being regardless of past of present circumstances.

“Readers will learn why we are not diseased or broken for the rest of our lives, even if we are living in a period of addiction. This is a book about happiness and contentment. It’s a serious topic, but I feel I present it is a not too serious way.”

Derbitsky has been an international training consultant for 20 years. He is president of ACT (Advanced Coaches Training) Training Inc., and has conducted webinars worldwide with individuals and groups struggling with addiction.

His understanding in the book is expressed via his insights regarding the 3 Principles of Mind, Consciousness and Thought, as uncovered by Sydney Banks.

His other published works include Native Spirituality in Prisons & Correctional Facilities, books on Alita’s Journey to Truth and Alita’s Sacred Journey and other published papers.

“When I began writing this book, I had one concept, which as it turns out was the wrong concept,” he says. “I was going to write about how to deliver a perfect program about addiction, but I was not ready for that book. That’s why I call this ‘book 1’ because I plan to write a second book maybe in three to four years from now of what I don’t see now.”

The book is available on Amazon and will soon be available locally at Albany Books and Black Bond Books.

“I put 125 per cent into this. My editor for the book is in California. I was very pleased with what I had written, but the editor really lifted the book to another level,” Derbitsky recalls. “It’s selling really well and people are reading it and giving me great comments, but I see this being more powerful say five years from now.

“As it gets into more addiction programs, I think the reach will be even greater. Some are looking for ways to help these people. Most people don’t want to be addicted, they just don’t have the services to leave it behind. People always ask me how many books did you sell, but I’m interested in how many people did I help. That’s what I really want to get out of this. If it helps a few people, then I am happy.”

Derbitsky will be on hand at the Tsawwassen Library on Friday, March 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with copies of his book.
