It’s not your typical car show.

On Sunday, participants from across B.C. and Washington State will converge in Ladner for the 14th annual quilt walk and classic car show.

“Everything is on board for this year,” said car show organizer Jim Crouch. “We have well over 150 vehicles registered so far. I hope we can crack the 400 mark. That would be a record for us. Lots of people tend to leave the registration to the last moment, but it’s going to be a great show.”

There are more than 18 different vehicle classes with trophies up for grabs to the tops in each class. The show is open to all classic cars, trucks and motorcycles. Those that have pre-registered receive a gift bag stuffed with giveaways and coupons from local merchants and sponsors. There is also 90 gift bags for quilt show participants.

“The gift bags are something we have done right from the start. It’s a nice tradition,” added Crouch.

Crouch said there are a number of factors that make the Ladner quilt walk and car show a unique event, chief among them is the community itself.

“It’s the town. Everyone likes Ladner, so when there is an event everyone comes,” said Crouch. “The quilts…people love looking at the quilts, so the wives can come too. It’s just not about the cars. Everyone is friendly in Ladner, so it’s a great atmosphere. There is so much here to offer. We have the cars, the quilts, the pin-up girls, live music and all the food trucks with great food to eat, so something for everyone.”

And besides all of the out of town participants, local car owners and enthusiasts come out in droves too.

“A lot of local guys from town go way back and many don’t show off their cars that much, but they come out for this Ladner show,” he said. “There are some great cars locally. You will be surprised who has what. And the stories are good too. Guys like sharing stories with folks. Guys share information about parts and stuff too to help each other out. Every car has a story.”
