Chamber music series returning to Tsawwassen

The Vancouver Chamber Music Society returns to the South Delta Baptist Church next week for the second performance in its new Delta Series.

On Friday, Nov. 22, the society introduces four acclaimed soloists and chamber artists for the romantic masterpieces written by Dvorak and Brahms as well as a trio written by the Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy.

Pianist Sergei Saratovsky will join the VSO's assistant principal cellist Zoltan Rozsnyai, associate principal violist Emilie Grimes and award-winning Canadian violinist Byungchan Lee for the 7:30 p.m. concert.

Single tickets are on sale and subscriptions for all the remaining series concerts are available until Nov. 22 from www.vancouverchambermusic.com or by calling 778-847-3890.

The series was launched back in September to deliver quality chamber music performances to audiences in Delta.

“This is the first chamber music series that has been presented on a regular basis in Tsawwassen,” artistic director Kevin Park told the Optimist in a previous interview. “We are trying to fulfill our mandate of sharing our music to a broader audience, so the way to do that is to create these types of music series.”

Park said the South Delta Baptist Church is a beautiful venue.

“When I first stepped into the church, I thought it was a little too big for chamber music, but then I started to clap and sing and the sound was great. Then I started imagining all the people in the audience and how that will sound. It’s going to sound fantastic,” he said.

“You can see and hear really well so the venue is really perfect to accommodate small ensemble all the way to the chamber orchestra.”
