It promises to be a day of music that will stir your emotions and elevate your soul.

Delta Choral Society presents Just Imagine, its annual spring concert, this Saturday at the South Delta Baptist Church in Tsawwassen. There will be performances at 2 and 7 p.m.

“I came across a version of the song Imagine and when I heard it I thought I could form the whole show around this theme,” said director Danielle Hamilton. “Just imagine a world without the simple things – love, peace – imagine if we didn’t have what we have and we weren’t so grateful?

“It’s about the importance of music and how it brings people together from all walks of life to create something that is far bigger than anyone of us would be all on our own and that is the feeling of community and why being in a community choir is so special.”

All four choirs that make up Delta Choral Society will perform during both concerts with a first for the choir to open the show.

“For the first time in our history we will see all the performers on stage together at the same time,” Hamilton said. “This will be just over 200 singers and quite a large band, so this will kick off the shows in a big way. This is going to be the greatest show.”

Hamilton said the adult choir will sing throughout and the children’s choir is featured in the first half of the show with the second half featuring the community choir and chamber choir.

“I made a big change – I’ve been directing for almost 11 years – and six or seven years ago I asked everyone to memorize the music, so no music sheets as guides during performances,” she said. “What a difference. It’s just a beautiful thing to have then all engaged in the audience and it makes for such a powerful show. I’m really proud of everyone.”

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors/students and free for children under 10. They’re available in advance at www.deltachoral.ca, from choir members or at the door. The venue is wheelchair accessible with ample parking.
