Sidekick Players is suspending the rest of its 23rd season.

The community-wide effects of the COVID-19 crisis continues to have more impacts…this time to the performing arts community.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Optimist received an announcement from Sidekick Players stating that they were suspending the rest of its 23rd season.

“As we face these trying times and cope with COVID-19 as best we can, the board of directors of Sidekick Players has made the decision to suspend the rest of our 23rd season,” said president Carroll Lefebvre. “Our patrons and our volunteers are very important to us and we do not want to put anyone in jeopardy.”

Lefebvre said the board discussed moving the next production, Drinking Alone by Norm Foster to June, but not knowing when a “safe time” will happen, felt that just moving forward in this fashion is better than planning, rehearsing and then possibly having to cancel it again as June approaches.

“Right now, the City of Delta has closed all arts centres for an indefinite length of time, which prohibits us from rehearsing or entering the facility,” she said.

Their 24th season in the fall with now open with Drinking Alone, directed by Todd-Elliot Gates.

Updates will be on their website at sidekickplayers.com in the future as well as on their Facebook page The Sidekick Players Club.

“We look forward to having this behind us and back in the theatre,” she said. “Thank you to the community for your continued support and please stay safe.”
