Delta Play Day will celebrate being active.

For the third year in a row, Delta Gymnastics invites the community to Delta Play Day, a free indoor and outdoor event, which is being held this Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delta Sport Development Centre in Ladner.

Delta Play Day invites families to try new sports and activities at no cost that would otherwise be hard to sample or experience. Families and children can then decide what to pursue further or practice more.

“The goal of this community event is to deliver try-it activities,” said Diane Steiner, community and outreach program coordinator for Delta Gymnastics. “We are proud to promote and develop children’s love for movement and sport at this entertaining, fun event.

“Our incredible facility and available equipment allow us the opportunity to have both indoor and outdoor events and to explore movement in a fun and safe way.”

There will be many fun activities delivered in mini sessions of about 20 to 30 minutes each to allow variety and exploration.

Options include gymnastics, Jui-Jitsu, indoor curling, dance, parkour, slacklining, obstacle course, baby gym, a bouncy air track and more.

“We have a big sign up board that families can select what they would like to try,” said Steiner.

Spaces are limited to ensure safety, so people are encouraged to come early to make their selections.

Steiner said it is important parents stay in the facility the entire time as staff cannot be responsible for supervision.

There will be a food truck on site and participants are encouraged to come with water bottles.

This year’s community sponsors and partners include TD Bank, Global Container Terminals, Ladner Legion, Westshore Terminals and White Spot.

“Their generous contribution will help to make Delta Play Day a huge success,” said Ana Arciniega executive director of Delta Gymnastics. “We are very fortunate to be surrounded by such a kind and big-hearted community. We are happy we can show our gratitude by giving back to families with this free event that provides the opportunity to laugh, have fun and be active together.”
