Laughs coming to South Delta Secondary

‘Powerhouse’ stand up comedy show serving as fundraiser for 2018 dry grad

South Delta comedy fans will be getting a Downtown Vancouver show without having to make the trek through the tunnel into the big city next month.

There will be a standup comedy night in support of the South Delta Secondary’s dry grad on Saturday, Feb. 10 hosted by experienced Tsawwassen comedian Billy Mitchell.

“It’s a powerhouse show,” he says.

Mitchell has hosted previous local comedy night dry grad fundraisers and the event has a solid track record of having an interesting diversity of acts, he notes.

Slated to perform this time are Richard Lett, Simon King and Justin Nichol.

Lett has been in the business for over 30 years, Mitchell says, noting he used to open for him back when he was starting.

“He’s a force to be reckoned with,” Mitchell says.

He says King has a high-speed style and is also a master impressionist.

Nichol has quickly become a favourite at Yuk Yuks comedy clubs and various colleges and universities across Canada, having shared the stage with such stars as Brent Butt from Corner Gas, Tim Meadows from Saturday Night Live, Lachlan Patterson from Last Comic Standing and Gary Valentine from King Of Queens, according to a submitted bio.

The comedy night fundraiser takes place Saturday, Feb. 10 at South Delta Secondary, 750-53rd St., Tsawwassen.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. while the show starts at 7 p.m.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time for $20 in person at the Wood N Frog Coffee Company, 5694-12th Ave., Tsawwassen, or online through Eventbrite.ca (search for SDSS Comedy Night 2018).

Tickets at the door cost $25.

Mitchell notes that this isn’t an “all ages” show and that parental discretion is advised.
