A Bunch of Amateurs has hit the Metro Theatre stage with Delta thespians well represented.

The lead actress is Lisa Gach, who plays director Dorothy Nettle, who holds everything and everyone together in the show. As the director of the Stratford Players, she is desperately trying to save their theatre. Getting in a big star to ensure they get the sponsorship to stage the play seems like a great idea, but it has its drawbacks.

The show is directed by Catherine Morrison, who is also the sound designer.

Morrison lives in Ladner as does her partner Les Erskine, who is the set designer, lighting designer and general manager for A Bunch of Amateurs.

“Life imitates art,” says Morrison about the play. “The challenges and concerns that face the imaginary theatre company are felt by theatre companies everywhere. I personally like the message about why we (amateur theatre people) do what we do. For love – not money nor fame or glory – we do it for the sheer pleasure in creating theatre.”

The show runs from until Nov. 23 with performances Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and a matinee on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $28 for adults and $25 for seniors/students. There’s a two tickets for $40 special on Thursdays.

Tickets can be reserved by leaving a message at the box office at 604-266-7191.

Metro Theatre is a non-profit theatre company dedicated to promoting and developing theatre arts. Now in its 57th continuous season. A Bunch of Amateurs is the theatre’s 519th show.

Metro Theatre is located at 1370 SW Marine Dr.
