A fun end of summer event happens this Saturday in North Delta as the City of Delta hosts its annual Luminary Festival.

A sparkling end-of-summer celebration takes place this Saturday night in North Delta.

Geared to all ages, the City of Delta’s annual Luminary Festival runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at Sunstone Park (10400 Delsom Cres.).

“It’s one of our bigger cultural events,” said Judi Stene, spokesperson for the City of Delta. “People go all out and dress up in costumes and bring their own lanterns. There have been a lot of neat costumes in the past.”
Stene said you can also make your own lantern at the festival. She stresses that all lanterns must be lit with tea lights and not candles or an open flame due to safety and fire restrictions in Delta parks.

The festival is highlighted by the parade of lights at 8:30 p.m., but will also feature the jazz, funk and soul rhythms of Soulstream, an award-winning band from Vancouver.

There will also be other performers and buskers, art and light displays, stilt walkers, a drumming circle, kids’ activities and crafts, food trucks and vendors.

The event is free although there will be a cost for any of the food vendors or the novelty items that will be available on site.

There will be no on-site parking so a shuttle will be available from North Delta Recreation Centre starting at 6 p.m. If it's a rainy night, the festival will move indoors at the Kennedy Seniors Recreation Centre.
