The Burns Bog Conservation Society is offering a number of fun, educational summer day camps this August.

Children can learn about and engage with nature this summer through day camps hosted by the Burns Bog Conservation Society.

The Burns Bog Conservation Society has been running its summer camp programs since 1999.

“While every day camp has a slightly different theme, there is a strong emphasis on wetland stewardship, especially with regards to Burns Bog, but also the importance of outside play and getting kids to learn about the importance of the resource right in their own backyard,” said camp coordinator Mark Robertson.

“It’s one thing for us to talk about all the important ecosystem services Burns Bog provides, but it’s a whole other thing for kids to actually get to experience the bog first hand and they get to do that in our summer camps.”

Robertson said camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and offer a variety of games, organized crafts, hands-on activities and guest presentations.

“The overall goal is to get kids active in the summer in the outdoor Burns Bog Nature Reserve,” he said.

Camps still to come this summer include:

  • French Camp, which features the best of all camp themes but is en Francais. It runs from Aug. 7 to 10 and is for ages six to 12.
  • Animal Mania – learn how animals hunt, hide and protect themselves. This camp runs from Aug. 13 to 17 and is for ages six to eight.
  • Destination Imagination – use your imagination to create, explore and have fun. This camp runs from Aug. 20 to 24 and is also for ages six to eight.

Parents can register their children for the full week or just one day.
