Elephant and Piggie’s We Are in a Play!, a new musical about two best friends and their many adventures.

The charming story is based on the best-selling book series by award-winning author Mo Willems. Filled with beloved characters and lively songs, it’s suitable for audiences ages three and up.

The production marks a return to the company for Pickett who starred in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Musical in 2002.

“I was driving home one day and thinking about the other actors who work around here and that I hadn’t been back at the Carousel Theatre in a long, long time. Two days later they called and offered me an audition,” he said.

“The material and the music is amazing. The audition was just so much fun. I auditioned with Kelli Ogmundson and we just hit it off, we had such great chemistry. Those auditions are rare. Auditions are being comfortable in an uncomfortable situation and when it happens that none of those concerns rear their ugly head and you have a ball, it guides you to saying yes when they offer you the role.”

Pickett has been busy as he is just wrapping up a month’s run in the Arts Club Theatre’s production of The Matchmaker where he played the characters Joe Scanlon and Rudolph.

Elephant & Piggie’s We Are in a Play!, runs March 2 to 31 at The Waterfront Theatre on Granville Island. The show is 60 minutes with no intermission. Tickets are $35 for adults, $29 for seniors/students and $18 for children three to 18. They’re available at: tickets.carouseltheatre.ca or by phone at 604-685-6217.
