These art classes have a therapeutic effect

South Delta artist and teacher Teresa Massel will once again be offering classes to those looking to foster their own well-being through their art.

Her classes will run from May 13 to June 17 at the South Delta Recreation Centre in Tsawwassen.

Participants will learn how therapeutic art making and interpreting your own art can help increase emotional well-being and resilience. No art making experience is required.

“My classes have been said to be enjoyable, relaxing and they are intended to support women interested in strengthening their creative ‘inner artist’ while assisting in a gentle evaluation of personal wellness in a non-disclosing way,” said Massel.

“Since no artistic skills are needed, I provide basic art instruction individually during the classes and all art materials are provided. These classes are for therapeutic expressive art making and self-discovery, they are not ordinary art classes. Caregivers have especially found them to be beneficial.”

Massel ran several classes last year that she said were a big success.

“I had a solid group of eight women – they loved it – it was life changing for them,” she said.

She said the idea for the classes came from her more than 20 years as a registered art therapist.

The classes are offered in partnership with the City of Delta. Participants can register for the classes, which are $100 plus tax, by phone at 604-952-3000 or at Delta.ca. Class size is limited to 10 participants.

If classes fill up, participants wishing to learn about more about Massel’s future classes can email her at: deltaarttherapy@gmail.com.
