Tsawwassen children’s author Danielle S. Marcotte will celebrate the launch of her eighth book with a signing in Ladner.

Marcotte will be at Ladner’s Black Bond Books between 1 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27. Dedicated to children ages seven to nine, Scamper and the Airplane Thief is a hardcover early reader fiction.

As is almost always the case, airplanes play a big role in her writing as they are a constant presence in South Delta’s sky.

“My son was 16 when he got his wings at Boundary Bay Airport, so we have spent a lot of time as a family around everything related to flight, including air museums, air cadets’ activities, ground school, etc.,” said Marcotte. “This latest book was inspired by my son’s adventures over the Fraser River when he was in training for float planes. But rest assured, he never stole any and is a very cautious pilot, contrary to my main character, Nate.”

Nate steals a training plane named Scamper for a joyride. Thanks to the little Luscombe 8f‘s courage and determination, the adventure over the Fraser River ends well.

Through Nate’s questionable decisions, the reader learns the dos and don’ts of flying. That knowledge is reviewed again in the glossary at the end of the book. The colour illustrations by award-winning Paul Roux and the comic-book style make the whole experience fun and thrilling.

Scamper’s fictional adventures are the first installment in the Keep the Blue Side Up! series showing off the prowess of different small planes in a B.C. setting.

Marcotte now has six children’s books under Vancouver’s Midtown Press' banner and two more with Manitoba’s Plaines. Both publishers expect to add more to those series in the coming months.
