Angus Stuyt was “really surprised” to find out his short film was named Best Picture at last month’s Young Moviemakers red carpet gala.

The 10-year-old acted in Midnight Man, a scary short made with a group of five others at a Young Moviemakers film camp.

“It was a lot of fun,” said Stuyt, who’s in Grade 5 at Cliff Drive Elementary.

Stuyt said he also did some editing and sound work on the project.

“We chose the film as the winner this year not only for its high production quality and performances but also for the work done by the production team behind the camera,” said Young Moviemakers’ Matt Kennedy. “The group had a strong story concept and worked hard to create a well-structured film. They worked hard on set with compelling visual storytelling and a professionalism that we want all of our filmmakers to strive for.”

Young Moviemakers is an acting and video production program for youth from six to 16.
