Celebrate the Christmas season with a Buddy Holly tribute in Ladner next week.
Featuring Zachary Stevenson, the leading man from the hit musical The Buddy Holly Story, Buddy’s Holly Jolly Christmas comes to Genesis Theatre on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Stevenson will be joined by Cassandra Frie as Brenda Lee and former international tribute champion Ben Klein as Elvis. They will perform hits from those artists as well as seasonal tunes, all backed up by the Legends All-Star Band.
“I’ve been performing with the Legends of Rock and Roll for almost 10 years now with a variety of shows: Elvis, Roy, Fats and Buddy, The Buddy Holly Story in Concert, Buddy meets the Beatles, Buddy and his Million Dollar Friends,” Stevenson told the Optimist via email while on tour in Kansas City. “This is the first year that we’re doing Buddy’s Holly Jolly Christmas.
“I’ve done variations on this theme for a couple Christmas seasons now. I love Christmas time, so it’s one of my favourite concerts to perform.”
Stevenson said audiences can expect a fun, festive rock and roll show.
“We’re doing an ultra-entertaining blend of seasonal classics as well the best of Buddy Holly, Brenda Lee and Elvis Presley with plenty of fun surprises peppered along the way,” he said. “I’ve even got a few gifts to give away.
“Cassandra Frie will wow you Rocking Around the Christmas Tree as Brenda Lee and Ben Klein will get you All Shook Up as Elvis. They are both world-class performers. We’re also backed by some of Vancouver’s finest musicians: Todd Biffard (drums), Joe Rotundo (guitarist of the Modelos) and Jeremy Holmes (rockabilly bass).”
Stevenson has performed in Ladner many times over the years and is looking forward to coming back.
“I love performing at Genesis. It’s home to one of my favourite audiences to play for,” he said.
