Here are a few of the highlights:

 

Saturday, Sept. 7

 

  • Gather your family and friends and join in the fun at the Westham Island Herb Farm for the 14th annual Day at the Farm.Hosted by Delta Farmland & Wildlife Trust, in partnership with the Ellis family, Day at the Farm take place this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.Hop on one of the farmer-led hay wagon tours to learn what Delta farmers are growing. Get your hands dirty digging your own potatoes at the BC Fresh Potato Dig. Spend time in the fields watching teams of horses plowing the way they did when farming began in Delta. Visit with local 4-H club members and the Holstein calves they’re raising.

 

  • Reading marathon at Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall starting at 10 a.m.Join John Meier in a marathon reading of Timothy Taylor’s Stanley Park starting at 10 a.m. in the breezeway of Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall (1299 56th St.). Everyone is encouraged to participate by taking turns reading from this best-selling novel for 15-minute periods.This is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Library.

 

  • The South Delta Sun Devils kick off their 2019 senior football season with a home game against the Terry Fox Ravens. Game starts at 1:30 p.m. at Dennison Park in Tsawwassen.

 

  • Illuminate the night at the 2019 Luminary Festival in North Delta. This late-summer celebration of the season on Saturday, Sept. 7 from 6 to 10 p.m., has become a local tradition, with residents parading through the intimate Sunstone Park with lanterns in tow. With countless activities, beautiful decorations, delicious food trucks, and phenomenal entertainment, the Luminary Festival is a truly unique and inspiring event that captures the imagination of children and adults alike.

Sunday, Sept. 8

 

  • The Society for a Drug Free BC is hosting its second annual running event in Tsawwassen on Sunday, Sept 8 to raise awareness of the drug epidemic in the Lower Mainland. The Drug-Free Dash a 5km/10km run and a 5km walk at Centennial Beach in Boundary Bay starts with warm-ups at 9:15 a.m.

 

  • The final Ladner Village Market for 2019 is this Sunday, Sept. 8. Head on down to 48th Ave. in Ladner from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and check out the hundreds of vendors for the final time as the 23rd season of this popular summer tradition comes to a close. Featured entertainment is the Dave Paterson Duo from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Kadabra Duo from 1 to 4 p.m.

 

  • Steve Hillis brings his tribute to Garth Brooks to the Ladner Legion for a dinner/show, so buckle up and get your tickets. Legion members ($30), non-members ($35), includes dinner at 6 p.m. and the show at 7. In addition to his Garth Brooks tribute, Hillis will also perform his ‘Voices of Legends’ tribute to Johnny Cash, Elvis, Roy Orbison, all true spirits of pop and country music.
