Environment Canada says the smoke can cause poor air quality and reduced visibility which can vary considerably from hour to hour.

The weather agency says people may experience increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath

Children, seniors, and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma, are especially at risk.

As of midnight Monday, the B.C. Wildfire Service says there are 152 active wildfires that are larger than 0.01 hectares.

Alberta is reporting 47 active wildfires across the province.
