The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is urging witnesses to come forward after the Surrey police received reports of a shooting at the South Surrey Athletic Park yesterday afternoon, July 30, at 2:45 p.m.
When officers arrived on-scene they found three individuals suffering from gun shot wounds after what appeared to be a targeted shooting.
Two victims have died while a third is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
Since investigators believe the shooting to have been targeted they do not believe there is any further risk to the public. However at this time they are working to confirm the identities of the victims and any connection they may have to the Lower Mainland gang conflict.
IHIT has taken over conduct of the investigation and is working closely in partnership with the Surrey Detachment, BC Coroners Service, the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia (CFSEU-BC).
Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT is appealing to the public, asking anyone with dash cam footage of the incident to come forward. Anyone who attended the area of South Surrey Athletic Park, exact address 14600 20 Avenue, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. or who has any information regarding the shooting should contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
“The onset of any investigation is critical as we move swiftly to secure time-sensitive and perishable evidence,” says Pierotti in a release.
