Man accused in death of UBC students back in court on Friday

Tim Carl Robert Goerner has been charged with six counts in conjunction with a 2021 car accident that claimed the lives of two UBC students.

A man accused of causing the death of two UBC students while impaired will be in Richmond Provincial Court on Friday morning to choose whether to be tried by judge or jury.

Tim Carl Robert Goerner has been charged with six counts in conjunction with a car accident in September 2021 when Evan Smith and Emily Selwood were killed.

The 18-year-old UBC students were walking on a sidewalk near Northwest Marine Drive at approximately 1:46 a.m. on Sept. 26, 2021 when they were struck and killed by a vehicle.

Goerner is currently out on bail.

He is charged with four counts related to impaired driving causing death and two related to dangerous driving.

Trial dates have been set for Oct. 4 to 17, 2023.
