Police are investigating a fatal stabbing that has left one person dead after a "confrontation" in Surrey.

Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a stabbing near 184 Street and Fraser Highway on Thursday night at about 10 p.m.

When officers arrived on the scene they found a 45-year-old man suffering serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Cpl. Vanessa Munn says officers are working to identify all of the people involved.

A confrontation is believed to have occurred between the victim and several other people before the stabbing.

"The Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service attended the scene and located one person who was taken into police custody and transported to Surrey RCMP cells,” says Munn.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been called in to investigate.
