Students at Delta Secondary are once again looking to collect food (including pet food), gifts, toiletries and gift cards to create hampers for local families in need to help them enjoy the festive season.
The 20 Days of Giving Campaign, which has been happening for more than 21 years, runs from Nov. 20 to Dec. 15. Last year, students raised an incredible $19,345 including food items, toiletries, and gift cards and in doing so, they helped to make the holiday season memorable for 26 local families. This year, students have the admirable goal of creating hampers for 30 local families and supporting the local food bank.
“As always, this campaign emphasizes the positive impact we can have when we come together as a community,” said teacher Colleen Blatz, organizer of this initiative since 1999.
If you are interested in participating in this year’s 20 Days of Giving Campaign, please drop off donations of food or gifts to the drop box outside the school: from Nov. 20 to Dec. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Friday. DSS is located at 4615 51st St. in Ladner.
For donations of cash or gift cards, please call ahead to the school office at 604-946-4194 to make arrangements. Monetary donations of $25 or more requiring a tax receipt should be provided in a cheque written to DSS (memo: 20 Days of Giving).
Members of the school’s Interact Club will also be collecting donations at Save-On Foods in Ladner on Tuesday, Dec. 5 from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
“This campaign has become a much-loved, wonderful holiday tradition at the school,” added social studies teacher Graham Harkley. “Every year, students have managed to be successful in helping even more members of the Ladner community. We’re hoping this year will be no exception.”
