The Uplift Canada Foundation is coming to the North Delta area on Saturday (Sept. 25).
The youth-led, registered non-profit organization up-cycles donated clothing, and directly relocates them to local shelters in that area; making giving easy and enabling citizens to connect and uplift others in their community.
“We are asking North Delta residents to clean out their closets and re-purpose some unused items by collecting them into a bag, and leaving them on their doorstep for our volunteers to pick up. Though, after consulting directly with staff from various BC based shelters, we decided to only accept the items that the shelters residents are requesting that month! By doing this, we ensure our giving is always intentional.”
Uplift Canada is an all-encompassing NGO because that works to alleviate environmental and social justice inequalities in a way that benefits both the giver and the receiver.
By up-cycling clothing donations and ultimately supporting the circular economy, Uplift Canada is alleviating the environmental damage being caused by clothing waste in landfills, and instead re-purposing these items into a usable resource to those in need.
The foundation aims to foster equitable relationships with the shelters and citizens it collaborates with. It supports individuals who are systemically over represented in shelter housing situations and believes in an intersectional, decolonizing approach to giving and receiving.
In order to request a clothing donation pick up, please fill out the form on the foundation website. Residents are requested to leave items in a bag outside by their doorstep.
