Calendar supports local charities

Annual Rotary undertaking also gives buyers chance to win cash prizes

Four local charities - Delta Life Skills, Delta Museum, Rotary Youth Leadership and Little House - will receive proceeds from sales of the 2012 Rotary calendar and lottery.

Thanks to the volunteer efforts of members in the Rotary clubs of Ladner and Tsawwassen, and the support of 60 local companies and organizations, revenues generated from the calendar sales will add to the $125,000 raised over the past six years. Organizations such as the Delta Hospital Foundation, Delta Hospice, Reach Child and Youth Development Society, and Canadian Mental Health Delta have all benefited from the calendars.

Rotary Club of Ladner past president Lynn Cameron says the calendars, which sell for $20 each, offer cash prizes every week of the year, ranging from $100 to $1,000. Over $10,000 in total cash prizes will be drawn in 2012.

With 2,000 to 3,000 calendars expected to be sold, the chance of winning one of the draws is relatively high, says Cameron.

The calendars, which feature 12 photographs of scenes or activities in Delta, are being sold in supermarkets and other locations throughout Ladner and Tsawwassen.

"Delta is so scenic and photogenic," Cameron adds, "so the calendar, with all its 12 photos, is something we are proud to call local, in support of our local community."
