After a COVID-19 pandemic pause, a September family farm tradition returns to Delta this Saturday, Sept. 10.
Hosted by Delta Farmland & Wildlife Trust, in partnership with Westham Island Herb Farm, Day at the Farm is a family-friendly event that invites community members from around the region to learn and experience first-hand the challenges and rewards of growing quality food here in the Fraser River Delta.
Day at the Farm will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westham Island Herb Farm, (4960 Kirkland Road).
Register in advance at: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/day-at-the-farm-tickets-344349367227 (not mandatory).
The day will feature a number of events including a potato dig where you can dig up some locally grown potatoes and bring them home to eat for dinner; poultry in motion where you will see how farmers raise chickens through a unique display featuring live birds.
There will be hay-wagon rides giving you a chance to travel around Westham Island Herb Farm on a guided tractor tour to learn more about crops grown here in Delta.
Attend a draft horse plowing demonstration to see how Delta’s farmers used to plow their fields.
Sample food from talented chefs as they cook up delicious meals using local produce at the BC Ag in the classroom display.
BC Fresh will also be on hand where you can pick-up free local produce and learn about what makes buying local food so special.
OWL Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (OWL) will also be on hand. You can chat with bird experts and meet rescued birds of prey face-to-face.
