Deas Island dancers staging benefit show Sunday at Genesis

Local dancers will lace up their shoes for a charity fundraiser this weekend at Genesis Theatre. The dancers range in age from 9 to 21 and train at Deas Island Dance in Ladner.

Local dancers will lace up their shoes for a charity fundraiser this weekend at Genesis Theatre.

The dancers range in age from 9 to 21 and train at Deas Island Dance in Ladner. The audience will be treated to a wide variety of dance, including ballet, musical theatre, jazz, hip hop, modern and tap.

The performance will showcase students involved in programs at Deas Island Dance and will also include several students that have been accepted to prestigious summer programs, including Annelise Bucher (San Francisco Conservatory), Frances Carroll, Julia Lowndes, Olivia Latendresse, Lauren Probyn (Ecole Superieure de Ballet du Quebec), Kelly Challinor, Katy Weatherly (American Ballet Theatre), Kayla Malanfant, Carissa Logan (School of Alberta Ballet), Liam Edgson (Royal Winnipeg Ballet) and Zack Warkentin (National Ballet of Canada).

The performance is one show only on Sunday, April 22 from 3: 30 to 5: 30 p.m..

Tickets are available at the door. Admission is $8 with all proceeds going to benefit the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation.
