Delta throwback: Celebrating Queen Mary

Let’s do another throwback, this time looking back at 1917. This above photo shows Ladner’s Delta Street decorated with flags for Queen Mary's 50th birthday.

Let’s do another throwback, this time looking back at 1917.

This above photo shows Ladner’s Delta Street decorated with flags for Queen Mary's 50th birthday.

After her husband King George V’s death in 1936, her eldest son, Edward, ascended the throne.

However, he abdicated the same year in order to marry divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson.

Mary’s second son, Albert, then took the throne until his death in 1952.

Mary died in March 1953.

Her granddaughter, Elizabeth, would be crowned in June of that year at the age of 25.

Queen Mary was consort from 1910 until her husband King George V, the first Windsor monarch, died in 1936. She became queen mother when her eldest son Edward VIII ascended the throne.
