Whether it’s taking grocery orders, shopping, driving seniors to their medical appointments, tending to their community garden or helping with their Food Security program, Deltassist is looking for folks interested in supporting our community’s wellbeing.

Eligible volunteer applicants must be a minimum of 19-years-old and have a clear criminal record check, three references and sign an oath of confidentiality.

“The extraordinary care, diligence and service volunteers have shown is a never-ending source of both amazement and appreciation. Our community is much enhanced by their service,” reads Deltassist’s website.

Here are some details on their different volunteer roles.

Grocery Order-Taking Volunteers will take registered Deltassist shop clients’ grocery orders over the phone on a weekly basis. The role can be done either from one of the Deltassist offices or from the volunteer’s own home.

Volunteer Shoppers will shop for seniors who cannot get out to shop for themselves. This weekly program is based in North Delta on Tuesday mornings and in Tsawwassen on Wednesday mornings.

Volunteer Drivers bring seniors who don’t have transportation means to their medical appointments. This role requires a clear driving record, and entails being reimbursed for mileage.

If you’re interested in any of these above positions, email Seniors Program Coordinator Colleen Danes at colleend@deltassist.com.

Volunteer Gardeners will be helping out in the Community Garden in the parking lot of the North Delta office. No gardening experience is required, as new volunteers will be trained by their experienced volunteers.

Food Security Volunteers will be picking up, sorting and packaging produce as part of Deltassist’s partnership with Real Canadian Superstore in North Delta for their food security produce program. This role is done on a weekly basis.

If you are interested in these two roles, email Office Manager Kam Dhaliwal at kamd@deltassist.ca.
