A fresh interior look for the Tsawwassen Legion includes frosted windows and updated logos.

Tsawwassen Legion No. 289 has a fresh look thanks to the generosity of its members and other patrons.

Volunteers completed work on new frosted window coverings and updated logos this week at the 56th Street venue located near the Tsawwassen McDonalds.

“We put it out to membership about the project with a donation jar and within a week we had raised enough money to pay for it. It’s so awesome to see because it’s tough times for everyone,” said Legion communications volunteer Pauline White.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, such renovations would typically not require donations. However, it reflects the struggle it has been for branch the past 12 months and now the venue is closed until at least the week of April 19 due to the latest health restrictions announced on Monday by Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry.

“There have just been no events happening,” continued White. “We have really been trying to think outside of the box. We had some volunteers doing dinners on Friday, which has helped a little, but there no darts, meat draws, bands or nothing. Things that usually draw people in just aren’t happening.”

White added the renovation work, which earlier included fresh interior paint, will prepare the Legion for what should be better months ahead when the restrictions eventually ease.
