Dramatic interpretation tells the story of Jesus

One-man performance will be held in Tsawwassen

Angus Stuart will bring his one-man performance to St. David's Anglican Church in Tsawwassen on Saturday.

Stuart's performance is a dramatic interpretation based on the Gospel of Mark.

He'll be telling the story of Jesus in the words of the writer of Mark's Gospel in contemporary English.

"The storytelling is dramatized in that I move about quite a lot - I don't just stand in one spot and recite the story - and I use some simple props," said Stuart in an e-mail to the Optimist.

"The effect is to draw people back in time so that they find themselves there in the story."

Stuart is the Rector of St. Francis-in-the-Wood in West Vancouver. He was previously a chaplain at the University of Bristol in England.

He started memorizing the Gospel of Mark in the spring of 2009 and first publicly performed in October 2010. Since then he has performed more than 20 times in Canada and the U.K.

Testament of a Naked Man (there is no actual nudity) is set for Saturday at 7 p.m. at St. David's Anglican Church, 111551A St., Tsawwassen.

Tickets are $25. They are available at Videoland locations in Ladner and Tsawwassen, St. David's Church or online at stda-vidsdelta.com.

Proceeds from the event go towards supporting seniors' housing in South Delta.
