Most of us believe that people "feel better" in natural settings, but have you ever wondered how or why this happens? What restorative processes are actually at work in the body and mind while we're in a garden setting?

The public is invited to a free presentation and discussion on Healing Gardens at the Earthwise Garden and Farm on Monday, June 29 at 7:30 p.m. Learn more about how gardening promotes well-being and discover how evidence from recent research supports the benefits of healing gardens for caregivers and care partners.

Earthwise horticulture therapy coordinator Thomas Dean will lead the presentation. Dean studied healing gardens at the Chicago Botanic Garden and spent over 15 years as a manufacturers' architectural design representative to health care facilities. He is accredited in evidence-based design by the Center for Health Design.

This presentation is part of Earthwise Society's new Therapeutic Horticulture Community Program funded through Community Action Initiative. The program is designed to improve health and well being for families impacted by mental illness or problematic substance use. The program will provide safe and inclusive opportunities for families to connect with others and with the natural world through shared activities in a community garden setting. RSVP to info@earthwisesociety. bc.ca or call 604-946-9828 for more information or to arrange a presentation for your organization. The Earthwise Society Garden and Farm is located at 6400-3rd Ave. in Boundary Bay.
