Earthwise offering help to grow your own vegetables

More and more people are discovering vegetables are not only healthier when they are fresh from the field, they taste better too. This summer the Earthwise Society can help locals grow their own with a series of workshops at the Earthwise Farm.

More and more people are discovering vegetables are not only healthier when they are fresh from the field, they taste better too.

This summer the Earthwise Society can help locals grow their own with a series of workshops at the Earthwise Farm.

Vegetable Gardening Month by Month teaches gardeners all aspects of organic food gardening, including what to plant each month, how to extend your harvests and how to get the most of your food garden without chemicals. Join Earthwise farmer Charlotte Konken the third Saturday of every month to find out what you should be doing in your garden throughout the season.

Do you have healthy compost? As all good gardeners will tell you, compost is the gardener's best friend, so make sure to keep yours happy. The Compost Doctor workshop will show you how to have successful composts, resolve common compost problems and help you trouble shoot what may be ailing your bin.

This workshop will run on May 24 and Sept. 20

from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Workshops require preregistration and are $10 each or $5 for Earthwise Society members.

To discover more about small-scale organic farming, Earthwise Society's free Farm Apprentice Program offers hands-on experience.

If your schedule keeps you too busy to grow your own, you can still enjoy fresh organic produce through Earthwise Society's Community Supported Agriculture program. Members purchase a subscription for $500 to receive weekly boxes of produce for 20 weeks starting in June.

Vegetables are harvested within hours of pick up to ensure freshness and subscription

fees help support Earthwise's education and community programs.
