Four students from Delta get Envision education awards

Four Delta students were among the 11 recipients of the 2015 Envision Financial Education Award. Alexander Gaio, Harleen Dhami, Jaymie Johannson and Jessica Steinwand each received one of the $2,000 awards.

Alexander Gaio, Harleen Dhami, Jaymie Johannson and Jessica Steinwand each received one of the $2,000 awards.

Each year, the awards recognize students that have demonstrated outstanding scholastic ability combined with exceptional community volunteer service.

Gaio is currently studying urban and regional planning at Ryerson University in Toronto and plans on pursuing a career as a transit planner. He has dedicated considerable

time volunteering as the lead public speaking coach for the Air Cadet League of Canada and attended the Canadian Urban Transit Association's youth summit as a youth legislative advisor.

Steinwand recently graduated from Delta Secondary and plans on attending Thompson Rivers University to pursue a bachelor of science degree in nursing. She has dedicated more than 200 hours as a first responder for the first

aid needs at DSS and has volunteered with the Rotary Interact Club to raise funds for various charities. Johannson is currently enrolled in the environment and sustainability geography program at UBC. She aspires to become an architect or landscape architect. Johannson has dedicated considerable time as vice-president for membership for the Delta Gamma Sorority.

North Delta Secondary grad Dhami will be attending UBC to pursue a bachelor of science degree with the goal of becoming a pediatrician. She has dedicated more than 120 hours volunteering in the pediatric ward at Surrey Memorial Hospital.
