Get Up and Go returns to McKee Centre this fall

Exercise program suited for those with mobility issues

Get Up and Go will continue this fall at the McKee Seniors' Recreation Centre in Ladner.

The program is designed for people at high risk of falls with balance and mobility restrictions. Its goal is to help participants improve strength, balance and coordination as well as enhance independence and overall quality of life.

It is especially suited for those using walkers, canes or wheelchairs.

Participants will utilize weights, balls, resistance bands and foam blocks.

Modifications for individual mobility levels will be provided.

Well-known and respected fitness instructor Debbie Cheong will facilitate the program, which was created by Fraser Health and OSTEOFIT (an exercise program developed by clinicians at B.C. Women's Hospital and Health Centre's Osteoporosis Program).

Although Get Up and Go is a variation of the B.C.

Women's Osteofit program, it is designed for men and women, so everyone is welcome.

The program runs on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2 to 3 p.m. Participants may sign up for one or two classes per week.
