Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary will be hosting a virtual Facebook Live fundraiser this weekend.

More than four years ago Greyhaven Exotic Bird Sanctuary rewrote its story.

A small, volunteer organization that rescued and rehomed an average of 200 birds a year suddenly was faced with the herculean task of rescuing, relocating, and caring for 584 parrots from deplorable conditions in the World Parrot Refuge in Coombs.

While the initial shock and crisis of this endeavour has long since passed, the story continues. About 45 WPR parrots are still waiting for their own homes, and the love of a special person, and intake of other birds continues unabated.

These amazing birds fill the hearts of volunteers with joy each and every day. But the COVID-19 pandemic has raised more hurdles for the Sanctuary, now based in Delta, as it has for everyone.

Adoptions were put on hold for several months, as was recruitment of new volunteers. Fundraising activities have been hit hard, but whether or not the money is flowing in the birds still need to be housed and cared for.

Open houses have been great fundraisers, but Greyhaven needs to do things differently this fall, so this weekend (Oct. 17 and 18) the organization will be using Facebook Live and hosting a series of tours and meet the birds’ events.

In addition, they will have a small silent auction, hosted on their website (http://greyhavenbirds.com/).
