IODE Boundary Bay Chapter members participated in a ceremony and tree planting to celebrate the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee at Peace Arch Washington State Park recently.

This was a joint initiative between IODE BC and the Washington State organization, DBE. “We are so happy that this event to celebrate her 70-year reign occurred prior to the Queen's recent passing. In 1953, Her Majesty became the Patron of the IODE and we have had the privilege of that relationship for 69 years,” remarked Boundary Bay chapter president Frances Dickson.

Three Red English Oak Trees were planted to add to the Queen's Green Canopy.

The Queen's Green Canopy was an initiative that began in May 2021 in the United Kingdom in honour of the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022. To increase and protect the native tree cover, people were urged to create this 'special gift' for the Queen, to mark her 70 years on the throne. In B.C., the Great Bear Rain Forest is part of the Queen's Green Canopy.

IODE BC had a total of 11 members attending the event including provincial president, Carole Yorke and Dickson.
