Knockout Theatre partners with Sidekick Players Club

The Sidekick Players Club, Delta's longest running theatre company, has announced a partnership with Delta's newest youth theatre company, Knockout Theatre.

The Sidekick Players Club, Delta's longest running theatre company, has announced a partnership with Delta's newest youth theatre company, Knockout Theatre.

Sidekick has offered its support for the fledgling group, including space for auditions this weekend for Knockout's upcoming production of Romeo and Juliet.

Knockout Theatre was created last year by Zoë Wessler and Jacob Wolstencroft to provide performance opportunities for youth in the Lower Mainland. Its first production, Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, was a huge success.

The production was staged in the Earthwise Garden, but the group is looking to move indoors for its next show and made the decision to do so at the newly renovated Tsawwassen Arts Centre.

While on the hunt for rehearsal space, Sidekick Players Club offered its sponsorship with a place for Knockout to rehearse and develop the skills needed for its next production.

"Teaming up with Sidekick has been an easy transition for us thanks to the support we have received from Sidekick Players founder and president, Carroll Allan," said Wolstencroft.

"Knockout Theatre is run by youth and we are more than excited to be able to team up with fellow theatrical enthusiasts to create an artistic contribution to the community."

"When I started Sidekick, having a youth group as a branch of our adult club was a top priority," said Allan, "and we staged several productions where we cast many young people, but have not been able to start a spin-off group due to our schedules.

"Jacob was our Tin Man in Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz and is an alumni of Sidekick and we are thrilled to be able to be a part of this production by Knockout Theatre."

Romeo and Juliet will be performed Jan. 5 to 7.

Auditions are on Saturday, Oct. 22 from noon to 6 p.m. at the arts centre, with Knockout looking to cast eight youth (ages 14 to 20). Auditions are on a first come, first served basis.

Actors are asked to prepare either a monologue or a song and bring in either the written version of the monologue or the sheet music/lyrics for the song. There will also be a cold read from the script. They are also asked to bring a headshot/resume.
