A 13-year-old up and coming musician from Ladner can now add pageant winner to her growing resume.

Desi G, who the Optimist profiled in August when she announced her upcoming album Lucid Thoughts, was crowned Miss Teen British Columbia over the weekend.

“I am truly honored in representing my province this upcoming summer at the nationals,” she said. “This experience has been truly beyond amazing. Never in my dreams did I think that this would be something that I would be doing or trying out for and I’m so glad I did. I have to say this experience has definitely been one of my highlights in my life.”

She said when she first applied for the pageant she wasn’t sure what to expect especially with how pageants are depicted on social media.

“So I decided to come into the pageant with an open mind. I was thoroughly surprised with the competition, it is such an amazing experience, one where the girls are supporting each other and the coaches guiding the girls to be their best version of themselves; it’s about learning about oneself, giving back to our communities and advocating for positive change,” she added.
