The Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club recently forwarded 2,000 pairs of eyeglasses to the Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) in Calgary.

The glasses will be sanitized, repaired, sorted, read for prescription and then packaged for shipment to missions around the world.

Canadian Lions Clubs and CLERC have been providing this service since 1996 and to date, more than 5.7 million pairs of eyeglasses have been shipped to more than 100 countries around the world. Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions have been participating since 2014 and have contributed more 4,800 pairs of eyeglasses.

Tsawwassen collection boxes have been set up with the cooperation of Precision Optical, Iris Optical, and the Waterford and Wexford senior’s communities. In the broader community, personnel at Air Canada and BC Ferries also collect and deliver eyeglasses to Tsawwassen Boundary Bay Lions Club.

Less well known is the acceptance of hearing aids, which are then refurbished and distributed within B.C. by the Lions of BC Hearing Foundation.
