The Rotary Club of Ladner recently presented a $4,600 cheque to the Little House Society from last fall's TV auction.

The Little House Society was a partner in the club's annual auction, and the donation represents the value of the items collected by the society.

The Little House Society is a community-based, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and advancing education related to substance use, abuse and addiction, and abstinencebased recovery from addiction. For 27 years, the society was charged with the responsibility of overseeing a house located on 12th Avenue in Tsawwassen, which was used as a meeting place for addictions and related recovery groups.

In 2009, the house was destroyed by arson. The society decided to turn this tragic event into an opportunity to redefine its mission and purpose, opting not only to rebuild the house as a multi-purpose facility to be used by recovery and other community groups, but extending its mandate by looking for ways to provide knowledge and support to the community regarding substance abuse issues.

Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

The Rotary Club of Ladner meets on Tuesdays at 12: 05 p.m. at the Delta Town & Country Inn.
