Local dignitaries will take part in Christmas service

Delta South MLA Vicki Huntington, Mayor Lois Jackson and Delta police Chief Jim Cessford will add their voices to a historic Christmas service at All Saints Anglican Church in Ladner this Sunday.

The service of Lessons and Carols retells the story of the nativity through selected readings from the Bible, interspersed with traditional carols.

"A service such as this reminds us amid the hustle and bustle that Christ's birth is the reason for our celebration," said Rev.

Elizabeth Northcott of All Saints. "It is a wonderful opportunity for the community to gather together in our beautiful church, and hear the Christmas story, and sing some of the wonderful music of the season.

We are very grateful for the participation of everyone, including local people who have agreed to do the readings."

All Saints Anglican Church is one of the oldest churches in Ladner. A service of Lessons and Carols was held to commemorate the founding of All Saints in December 1881. Last year the church celebrated its 130th birthday with a similar service.

This year, along with Huntington, Jackson and Cessford, some of the lessons will be read by Rev. Jim Short of Ladner United Church, Archbishop Douglas Hambidge and Denise Hambidge.

The service features soloist Erica Northcott and the carols will be led by the choir of All Saints, with a candlelit finale of Silent Night.

The service is scheduled for 7: 30 p.m.

All Saints is at 4755 Arthur Dr.
