Mayor to address next week's South Delta Probus meeting

The South Delta Probus Club is welcoming Delta Mayor Lois Jackson to this month's meeting.

The South Delta Probus Club is welcoming Delta Mayor Lois Jackson to this month's meeting.

Jackson has been invited to the gathering to talk about her long career in municipal politics, which

includes 30 years on council, with 15 in the mayor's chair. During that time she also served as chairperson

of the Metro Vancouver board for five years from 2006 to 2011.

Jackson will talk about why she has chosen to stay in municipal politics, the accomplishment she is most proud of and what it is like to chair a board of politicians representing different municipalities with different needs.

The meeting will not be political in nature. The club has asked the mayor not to discuss current issues in the municipality and she will not be taking any questions about today's issues in Delta.

The meeting, which is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at the Coast Tsawwassen Inn, is free and open to all Delta residents.

Probus is a worldwide association of active retirees. South Delta Probus offers its members the opportunity to learn from speakers on key issues. The association is non-political and non-fundraising, and allows members to enjoy fellowship and activities that stimulate the mind and body.
