Minister's minute

Check it out

I am still on that "going to church" kick. Feb. 26 is the first Sunday of Lent. Come join the worship as we move towards the great celebration of Easter - Jesus' resurrection.

Watching the world news of debt, disaster, death and despair certainly shakes my foundations. Add to that people's lives - a dear friend of ours just received a serious cancer diagnosis. Most people I know are facing some challenge - life threatening or life changing.

What to do when the foundations are shaking? Find a church! Not a building but a people worshipping God and following Jesus.

What I look back at the times when my life's foundations were shaking - it's Jesus people who were there faithfully, unconditionally and for the long haul. That is why I ended up doing what I do.

Have I been let down by Jesus people at times? You bet. I have even been to churches where no one said hello. I have seen churches torn apart by conflict. Jesus folks are humans who make mistakes.

It's not that we are perfect or "holier than thou." Rather we know God so loves humanity unconditionally that when we do not measure up to the mark, we get back up, brush the dust off and get at it again, learning to serve.

There is something, well, glorious in my experience about Jesus people. They have made all the difference in my life. Maybe it's time you stopped by and checked out your local church.
