It seems hard to imagine planning for the Christmas season in July but preparations for the 11th season of Operation Red Nose in Delta/Richmond are now underway.
The volunteers are being asked to step up, sponsors are being asked to help make this season possible and the organizing committee is putting practices into place.
The first sponsor to step up and take the lead was the Tsawwassen Legion with a donation of $1,000, which has been followed by Coast Tsawwassen Inn at the $2,500 level, Shato Holdings at $1,000 and Star Diamond Tools at $250.
"On any given year, we need over 300 volunteers to provide nine nights of safe driving and over 70 sponsors to support the program and assist sport in Delta. This year, we estimate we need another 100 volunteers to keep up with the demand," said Carlene Lewall, Operation Red Nose co-ordinator.
"We want to encourage our community to help us keep our roads and families safe by supporting this program. It is a fun and rewarding experience as you are actively helping to keep the roads safe during the busy holiday season and at the same time helping the youth of our community."
